Adult Workforce Programs
Frederick County Government's adult opportunities are offered in collaboration with participating academic institutions and workforce development organizations.
Internships are a structured work experience that aligns with a student's field of study and is often integrated into their academic curriculum. These internships can be paid or may be approved as unpaid only if receiving academic credit. Participants will have the opportunity to be placed in an area that aligns with their academic background, allowing them to explore the inner workings of local government, build professional networks, and discover the many ways it serves the community.
Coming soon! Registered apprenticeship is a formal training program recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor that combines paid, on-the-job learning with related classroom instruction. Apprentices earn progressive wages as they master competencies, making this model both practical and cost-effective for talent cultivation. The position must be formally approved and registered with the Maryland Department of Labor.
Job shadowing provides career explorers with short-term, observational experiences designed to introduce them to specific career fields within Frederick County Government. These experiences allow individuals to visit professionals in the workplace, observe daily operations, and ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of various roles and industries, making it an ideal tool for early career exploration and community outreach.
Volunteer opportunities involve individuals offering their time and skills to support a cause or organization without monetary compensation. Volunteers may assist with events, outreach, or operations, and their contributions can enhance community impact and visibility.
